About this event

An exceptional historic landmark, the restored remains of the Fort Thüngen, built 1732 - 33, has hosted the Museum Drai Eechelen dedicated to the Fortress, History and Identities since 2012. In the permanent display, each casemate documents a period in the history of the fortress, highlighting links to the history of the city as a whole. The itinerary starts in the Middle Ages with the invasion by the Burguignons in 1443 and ends with the construction of the Adolphe Bridge in 1903. Around 600 objects and original documents, many of them previously unseen, testify to the richness of the collections. A specifically fitted out area hosts photographs that show the fortress just before and during its demolition. The building itself features as the main exhibit, comprising a spectacular network of underground tunnels and drifts which remain in a state similar to when the construction was finalized (1836 - 37).
