Europe sneezes: will Luxembourg catch a cold?

In October 2013, Luxembourg business leaders viewed 2014 with relative optimism. A new government, unburdened by a legacy of past policies and determined to address structural issues and the government deficit. An end to banking secrecy, changes in VAT laws, European Parliament elections and a new European Commission promised to make 2014 a defining year for the future of Luxembourg and Europe. But all this was in the context of an increasingly competitive market and a European economy struggling to break out of recession. Today, future projections of world growth have been cut back, particularly as regards Europe and even the traditional engine of the Europe economy, Germany. Troubles on the European Union’s eastern borders in Ukraine, with the impact of sanctions on Russia, dire issues in the middle east, slowing of growth in Asia and particularly China, all make the world economy look precarious. Can Luxembourg use its traditional aptitude at reinventing its business priorities and focus to maintain growth? or will Europe’s sneeze give Luxembourg a cold?

We have assembled a panel of highly respected business leaders to discuss the challenges for 2015 and the key issues the Luxembourg government will need to focus on.

What will the outlook be? To lead into the panel discussion, KPMG will present the results of the autumn 2014 edition of the Luxembourg Business Compass. Now in its 6th year, the survey focuses on how business leaders expect the Luxembourg economy to develop over a 6 and 12 months horizon, along with their expectations and plans for their own companies.

This event is generously sponsored by KPMG Luxembourg.

The evening will begin at 18.00 with registration. The conference is scheduled to begin at 18.30 with interactive discussion between the panel and the audience.
