About this event

The British Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth is pleased to invite you to our next evening event titled “Generation ICT: Building Skills Today for Luxembourg’s Jobs of Tomorrow”, which will take place on Tuesday, 21 April 2015 at Campus Scolaire Geesseknäppchen, 40 Boulevard Pierre Dupong L-1430 Luxembourg at 18.00.

When the BCC TMT group conducted a survey for its 2014 conference "Opportunity 2020", one of the questions was "what problems do you face in Luxembourg and what could keep you from remaining active in the country?" Among others, answers were strongly focused on availability of qualified, English speaking workers as well as finding workers who have the necessary skills to succeed in a digital and information economy. On a local level, business leaders at the Economy Days conference in Luxembourg in 2014 also said that they needed the skills acquired by young Luxembourgers at school to be a better fit with the current and future needs of the business community.

The TMT Group has taken this input as guidance for its activities over the last year. How can we open up dialogue between business and the education system? How can we help to bring more value to the BCC members by supporting them in efforts linked to upgrading technology and language education in Luxembourg? Are there initiatives elsewhere that can be leveraged in Luxembourg as well?

During our Business meets Education meets Technology event on April 21 we will present the new initiative “BEE Creative!” in the framework of the Government’s comprehensive Digital Luxembourg plan. Its goal is the implementation of a creative use of new technologies inside and outside the Luxembourgish school environment. In addition, we will present the BCC’s initiative to support BEE Creative! by bringing the extremely successful UK Apps For Good program (http://www.appsforgood.org) to Luxembourg. Apps for Good has been implemented in over 500 schools in the UK since starting up less than 5 years ago.

The evening agenda:

  • Xavier Buck, Chairman of the Luxembourg ICT Cluster, will talk about the business need for Generation ICT to have different skills in the future to drive Luxembourg’s Digital agenda.
  • Jos Bertemes, Director of SCRIPT, will talk about the Digital Luxembourg Program, and Eric Krier, Head of Unit at the Service National de la Jeunesse (SNJ), will talk about the “BEE Creative!” initiative.
  • Iris Lapinski, Founder and Co-CEO for Apps for Good, will talk about Apps for Good and its goal to "transform the way technology is taught in schools; to empower students from all backgrounds to seize the opportunities of our digital age and create solutions to the problems they care about, using technology.”

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion during which the speakers will answer questions from the audience.
