The British Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite you to the last of our special events for our 25th anniversary year and another highlight not to be missed: Wot? No fish!! an award winning theatre production which will take place on Friday 08 December 2017 at Mamer Kinneksbond. The play starts at 20:00 and aperitifs will be served from 19:00. This is open to both members and non-members, and will be followed by a cocktail reception to meet and greet the actors and production team.
Winner of the „The Brian Way Award“ for best new play 2013 and Lyn Gardner’s pick of the 2013 „Fringe“ in „The Guardian“, Wot? No Fish!! astounded critics and audiences alike!
From 1926 to 1982, shoemaker Ab Solomons drew a picture on the back of his weekly wage packet which he gave to his wife, Celie. These images chronicle their family life in the East End of London, through ups and downs, with great wit and warmth and blistering honesty. They also give a historical account of a changing city — from the 1920s, through the Second World War, and on to the 1980s — vividly depicting shifting ambitions and attitudes.
Years later, Danny Braverman discovered the lost art of his great-uncle Ab on more than 3.000 wage packets in a shoebox — unleashing a family’s secrets and truths. Like a graphic novel brought to life, with the drawings projected on stage, Braverman shares the story with affection and humour.
Wot? No Fish!! is a portrait of a family and a tribute to the extraordinary stories of ordinary people.
"Affectionate and unsparing, Braverman makes the unwinding of the story look effortless." Guardian.
"Braverman leads the audience through his great-uncles life and art in a show that is deeply stirring and wonderfully funny." Luxembourger Wort
"For the last half hour of its ninety minutes, my cheeks were wet with tears, both happy and sad ones. Braverman presents it with such directness, simplicity and sincerity that you cannot help being moved." Britsh Theatre Guide
