BUSINESS FORUM

Following up on successful events focused on Dematerialization of Media and Services, Commercial Considerations of Social Networks, and Leading the Way in Social and Mobile Networking, our next Evening Business Forum will explore “Your Digital Life”. While previous events have covered the impact of new technologies on services, communications and networking, “Your Digital Life” will look at the impact of technology on the bricks and mortar world in which we all live, centering on the four main pillars of our lives:

  • The Home
  • The Office
  • The Car
  • Shopping

The Home: The expansion of high-speed bandwidth availability will radically change the goods and services which we consume at home. “Your Digital Life” is an expectation that goods and services be delivered to you wherever you are, and not just to a physical box or location. Luc Welter, Head of Marketing and Innovation at P&T LUXGSM, will present P&T’s concept of the digital home, providing universal cabling to the home as well services such as “Tele vun der Post” and mobile access to television on tablets and mobile phones with Zattoo.

The Office: Technology has rendered it possible to work from home, but also to manage aspects of private lives at work. The concept of “At work” or “At home” is now often replaced with a location-independent “Available” or “Away/Offline” status. Companies have been pressured to accommodate this new work/life integration. In addition, the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend means many employees don’t want multiple devices for different environments, but rather their preferred devices, configured for work or play whenever they need. Frederic Hoyer, Business Development Manager, Avaya will present their experiences in BYOD and accommodating the digital lives of employees.

The Car: If we spend the majority of our lives at home or at work, the time we spend in the car can be a source of pure pleasure or intense frustration. Hard disks for music storage, built-in internet hotspots, RSS/Twitter/Facebook/E-Mail feeds, connectors for iPad and other mobile devices, have turned cars into mobile offices or mobile extensions of our digital lives. Marc Lucas, Fleet Account Manager, Arnold Kontz Group BMW will present their strategy of technological innovations from the inside of the car.

Shopping: Our digital lives now accompany us to the remaining bastions of bricks and mortar, grocery stores and physical package delivery. We can now order online, show a virtual loyalty card at check-out, scan barcodes with the camera on our phones, and maintain virtual shopping lists updated by family members from wherever, whenever. Those goods, once ordered, have to be delivered or picked up somewhere. Robert Thiemann, Managing Director of BPM Luxembourg, will present the logistics which power our online shopping experiences at places like Auchan and Cactus, as well as a virtual postbox service.

The evening will be moderated by Eric Auchard, Editorial Innovation Director, Reuters
