The British Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite you to attend a Lunch with Guest Speaker Guy Demuyser, a former Luxembourg Ambassador to the Soviet Union, Belgium and NATO.
Guy will speak on the subject “A major drama in the history of Luxembourg: the German invasion on May 10, 1940". He will enlighten us with some little known aspects - some funny, some unbelievable - including how Luxembourg wasn’t all that neutral or unprepared at the beginning of WW II; how our natural protector, France, was amazingly relaxed because they were convinced of their military superiority. He will go on to explain how Hitler’s ambitions remained largely unknown – or were not taken seriously and also why monarchy is a tremendous asset in times of crisis and tragedy.
Guy Demuyser holds degrees in civil and public law (Ph.D., Luxembourg), international law and diplomacy (M.A. Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, USA), business management (University of Grenoble, France) and received a Dr.h.c. from Miami University in 1993. From 1981 to 1991, he served as Luxembourg Ambassador successively to the Soviet Union, then to Belgium and NATO. Prior to this he had been the personal assistant (non-political) to the Head of State of Luxembourg (a function corresponding in England to a combination of Lord Chamberlain and Chief of cabinet) for 10 years. Besides teaching political science at the European Center of Miami University (USA) he is a President or board member of both government and non-profit organizations in the fields of culture, public health, social and humanitarian activities. Guy is married with 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
