The British Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite you to attend a lunch with Guest Speaker, Paul Helminger, Chairman of the Board of Luxair & Cargolux who will speak on the subject: "The Future of Luxembourg Aviation".
The subject of ‘The future of Luxembourg’s aviation sector’ is a critical element to Luxembourg’s success and indeed relevance into the future. The Luxembourg Government has identified both the ITC and Logistics sectors as key engines for growth, both securing valuable employment and fuelling a vibrant and diverse economy. For Luxembourg to maintain its position ‘at the heart of Europe’, there is also a tangible need to maintain strong direct airline communication links with all major economic and political centers in Europe, which will be essential for Luxembourg to remain attractive in an increasingly competitive European market. Therefore, we are delighted to welcome Mr. Paul Helminger the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of both the Luxair Group and Cargolux Airlines as our keynote speaker.
In his current position, Mr. Helminger is uniquely placed to share his experiences on the practical challenges facing the aviation industry in Luxembourg and his qualified views as to what the future holds for this critical cornerstone to the Luxembourg economy.
Mr Helminger studied law at the Sorbonne in Paris until 1963 and finished his studies in political science at Stanford University in 1964. Helminger started to work in diplomacy for the state of Luxembourg in 1966 and represented the country in London, Helsinki and Geneva, until 1974, when Prime Minister Gaston Thorn made him his Chief of Cabinet. From 1979 to 1984 he became Secretary of State for external relations, development aid and economy under the Werner-Thorn Ministry. He was deputy from 1984 to 1989, and again from 1994. Since 1987, Helminger has also been a member of the city council of Luxembourg City. He became alderman in 1991 and mayor in 1999.
