About the chamber

The chamber

Objectives

The British Chamber of Commerce for Luxembourg is an English-speaking forum for contact and communication among decision makers, opinion formers and participants in Luxembourg’s local and international business communities.

Membership encompasses a wide range of nationalities and is open to any commercial enterprise or business person for whom the English language is an essential business tool.

The Chamber’s objectives are to follow and influence developments in the economic and business world in Luxembourg affecting members’ interests, and so contribute to making Luxembourg an attractive place for British business and Britain an attractive place for Luxembourg business, and to promote trade between Britain and Luxembourg.

Events

To achieve these objectives, the Chamber organises regular events with expert speakers focusing on current issues, as well as social events. Recent lunchtime and evening business forums, addressed by government ministers and senior business people, have included a business lunch, Difficult Times and Ways Ahead, with Etienne Schneider, former Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade; an evening business forum on how individuals and companies manage their social media profiles, backed up with research specially commissioned by the Chamber; and a forum, Luxembourg Tax – Challenges for the Future, with Alphonse Berns, Director Fiscal Policy, Ministry of Finance. Social events include a golf day, a summer dinner dance and a Christmas lunch addressed by the British Ambassador (all now annual events).

The Chamber’s events are generally very well attended and thus provide members with an excellent opportunity for networking and entertaining clients. For similar reasons events are almost always sponsored by companies wishing to reach the Luxembourg business community.

In addition, the Chamber works in partnership with other organisations including the British Embassy, The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the chambers of other countries and trade associations.

Membership

There are three levels of membership: Sustaining, Business and Individual Members. Business activities of the current membership of over 300 companies and individuals include financial services, such as banking, fund management and insurance; professional services such as law, accountancy, fiduciary and consultancy firms; information technology and telecoms; advertising; retailing; travel, courier, relocation and removal services; real estate; and human resources, training and education.

Website

The membership directory is a key feature of the Chamber’s web site, which also lists upcoming and past events complete with speakers’ presentations. The site has over 100 links to web sites such as British government organisations; Luxembourg administration sites providing information on business conditions in Luxembourg; the European Communities in Luxembourg; and general entertainment and tourist information. The web site notice board provides Chamber news and documentation and offers members and other site visitors a facility to draw attention to other organisations’ events and matters of interest to members.
