DLA Piper announces the appointment of Jacques Wantz as a partner in its Tax practice, based in Luxembourg. He will be joined by associate Emre Akan. Jacques joins the firm from Allen & Overy, where he has worked since 2008. He specialises in international and corporate tax law, focussing on the tax aspects of cross-border private equity, real estate and debt investments and the tax structuring of regulated and unregulated investment funds. Jacques also advises on the tax elements of corporate restructurings, securitisation and capital markets transactions. Commenting on his appointment, Catherine Pogorzelski, Country Managing Partner for DLA Piper in Luxembourg, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jacques and Emre to the firm. They are well-respected practitioners with impressive technical knowledge and experience in key sectors in which we advise. Luxembourg, more than ever, plays a significant role in the banking and finance world, especially in the field of investment funds and tax planning, areas in which we see great potential for growth and a strong demand from our clients. I am convinced that they will help us achieve our goals both in Luxembourg and internationally, and will play an instrumental role in our Funds practice as well as supporting our corporate and finance lawyers.” Roderik Bouwman, International Group Head of Tax, Roderik Bowman, said: “Jacques’ superb experience combined with his entrepreneurial approach will help us to capitalise on the significant opportunities that lie ahead. I am confident that he will be a great asset to our Luxembourg office and to our International Tax team.” Jacques’ appointment continues the busy period for DLA Piper’s international Tax and Corporate groups. Last year, the firm announced the hire of partners Sylvie Vansteenkiste, Raphaël Béra, Fanny Combourieu (Tax), Benjamin Aller and Julien Vandenbussche (Corporate) in Paris; Simon Vogel and Gerald Schumann (Corporate) in Munich; Marie-Theres Rämer (Tax), Roland Maass (Corporate) and Dennis Kunschke (Finance) in Frankfurt, with whom Jacques will work closely.
