On 16 April 2026, the British Chamber of Commerce for Luxembourg’s (BCC) Sustainability Group hosted a conference titled « Sustainable Retail Finance in Luxembourg: Designing Solutions for Tomorrow » at LALUX Assurances, in partnership with the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI).
The conference brought together leading experts in sustainable finance and industry experts across the insurance, banking and investment sectors to share insights on the latest initiatives driving innovation in sustainable retail finance in Luxembourg. Discussions also covered key regulatory developments, current market trends, new product offerings, and the main challenges to unlocking the market’s full potential.

In his opening remarks, Jerôme Wiwinius, Sous-directeur and Responsable corporate at LALUX Assurances, provided a brief overview of the LALUX group’s history and the recent evolution of its brand strategy. Noëlle Gerin, Responsable du développement durable at LALUX Assurances, highlighted the central role sustainability plays in LALUX’s overall strategy.

The first session focused on industry initiatives to foster innovation in sustainable retail finance in Luxembourg.
Lorenzo Avico, Deputy CEO of LSFI, presented several initiatives led by LSFI and the broader industry, including targeted studies conducted through dedicated working groups and educational programmes on sustainable finance taught in Luxembourg secondary schools.
Cathrine Foldberg Møller, Partner at DLA Piper, then presented the key findings of the outcome report of the LSFI Working Group on Innovation and Retail Products for Sustainable Finance, which she chairs. Cathrine also shared practical insights into what retail investors need to understand about sustainable finance regulations.

The second session explored product innovation and distribution challenges.
Alain Flesch, Responsable Produits financiers at LALUX, introduced LALUX Assurances’ new life insurance investment and savings product, easy LIFE Invest for Future, which has been certified ESG by Luxflag.
Claude Hirtzig, Head of Department Retail & Professional Banking at Spuerkeess, shared his perspective on the practical challenges faced by retail banking advisors in promoting sustainable investments, notably the difficulty of explaining a complex regulatory framework to retail clients.
Gaël Guibert, ESG Compliance at Fidelity International, provided insights from the investment funds industry, including Fidelity International’s approach to sustainable investing and some of the key challenges it is currently facing.

Overall, the conference highlighted that, despite a growing momentum, the adoption of sustainable products by retail investors remains limited in Luxembourg (6.8%) and globally (2.2%). Discussions pointed to several cross-sector gaps and structural barriers that continue to constrain investment in sustainable products, while also identifying potential avenues to address them.
The event concluded with a networking cocktail, offering participants the opportunity to continue discussions with speakers and peers within the business community in an informal setting.

BCC extends a sincere gratitude to LALUX Assurances for their generously hosting and sponsoring this event.
